Gangs Defy Foreign Intervention as Violence Escalates
The violence in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has reached horrifying levels, with reports of gangs disembowelling their victims and stuffing their remains with projectiles. This surge in brutality coincides with the country's political turmoil, which has allowed gangs to wreak havoc. The recent resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, effectively forced by gangs who stormed the main airport and freed thousands of prisoners, has paved the way for Garry Conille to assume the role of the new Prime Minister.
The AyiboPost, a news outlet based in Port-au-Prince, has shed light on the depravity of some gang violence in Haiti. A group in the Jérusalem neighborhood, led by Jeff and his henchmen, is notorious for disembowelling their victims and filling their abdomens with projectiles, allegedly to poison the bullets. However, Dr Jean Ardouin Esther Louis-Charles, medical director of the Port-au-Prince Sanatorium, has refuted this claim, stating that the method is unscientific and does not poison the ammunition. While the bullets may not be poisoned, they can carry illnesses or bacteria from the individuals they are inserted into.
The AyiboPost has also obtained images of gang members preparing for the arrival of foreign forces deployed to regain control of the country. These forces, led by 1,000 Kenyan police officers, are facing a formidable challenge. Images show gangs building a wharf, conducting mystical rituals in Canaan, and demanding residents return to their homes. One gang leader, known as Izo, is reportedly "enhancing his operational capabilities," with the wharf facilitating easier movement of men, weapons, and drugs.
In March, gang leader Jimmy 'Barbecue' Cherizier issued a stark warning, declaring that any foreign force would be treated as "invaders." He expressed concerns about the potential for massacres in poor communities, accusing the oligarchs and corrupt politicians of manipulating the foreign forces. Cherizier vowed that his group, armed and prepared, would not allow such atrocities to occur. He emphasized that they would consider the Kenyan military or police as aggressors and invaders, refusing to collaborate with any force that threatens their independence.
