Posters featuring PM-designate Narendra Modi have been put up in Delhi as preparations are underway for his swearing-in ceremony, signaling the initiation of his third straight tenure as India's Prime Minister. Under Modi's leadership, the formation of the government by the NDA at the Centre is imminent, continuing the governance for another term.
This event is historic, as Narendra Modi joins the ranks of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as the only leader to secure a third consecutive term after completing full tenures in each previous term. The ceremony will not only involve Narendra Modi taking the oath but also his council of ministers participating in the same event. Extensive arrangements have been made, with around 1,100 traffic police personnel from the Delhi Police assigned for facilitating smooth traffic movement and route coordination for the dignitaries attending the oath ceremony on Sunday.
As part of the elaborate preparations, foreign delegates and heads of state are set to attend PM Modi's oath-taking ceremony in a testament to India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy, with distinguished guests like Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Prime Ministers from neighboring countries confirming their attendance. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that leaders from Sri Lanka, Maldives, Seychelles, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Nepal, and Bhutan have accepted the invitation to witness the ceremony.
The significance of the event is underscored by the MEA's emphasis on the leaders' visit as a reflection of India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and 'SAGAR' vision, showcasing a continuing effort to engage with countries in the region. In addition to the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders will also attend a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan hosted by President Droupadi Murmu. The event aligns with PM Modi's earlier engagements with SAARC nations in 2014 and countries from the BIMSTEC group in 2019, highlighting India's proactive regional diplomacy.
