Independent MP Pappu Yadav, representing the Purnia Lok Sabha seat, has voiced his opposition to the Agniveer scheme, echoing the concerns raised by JD(U) spokesperson KC Tyagi. Yadav believes the scheme should be abolished and calls for a comprehensive review, deeming it an insult to the youth.

He further urged TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and JDU chief Nitish Kumar to refrain from supporting schemes like Agnipath, stating that such initiatives contribute to societal discord.

Earlier, JD(U) senior leader KC Tyagi had expressed the party's desire for a detailed discussion on the shortcomings of the Agnipath scheme, despite their unconditional support for the BJP-led NDA. Tyagi acknowledged the public's discontent with the scheme and emphasized the need to address the concerns raised.

The Agnipath Scheme, implemented in the Indian Armed Forces, involves the recruitment of candidates as Agniveers for a four-year period. After completing their engagement, Agniveers are eligible to apply for permanent cadre positions, with a maximum of 25% being selected for regular cadre enrollment.

In the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the NDA partners, JD(U) and BJP, secured 12 seats each in Bihar. The RJD won four seats, while Congress secured three.

Pappu Yadav's victory in Purnia was a significant upset, as he defeated both JDU's Santosh Kumar and RJD's Bima Bharti. Yadav garnered 5,67,556 votes, securing a margin of 23,847 votes over Kumar.

The BJP emerged as the largest party in the Lok Sabha elections, securing 240 seats, while the NDA secured a total of 292 seats. The Congress, as part of the INDIA bloc, secured 99 seats, preventing the BJP from achieving a majority on its own. Other parties within the INDIA bloc, including the Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and DMK, secured 37, 29, and 22 seats respectively.
