Japan-Taiwan Relations Strengthened as Over 30 Lawmakers Attend President-Elect's Inauguration
A significant delegation of over 30 members from the suprapartisan Japan-Taiwan Diet members' consultative council will attend the inauguration ceremony of Taiwan President-elect Lai Ching-te on May 20th. This marks the largest attendance from the council in history, highlighting the strengthening ties between the two nations.
Keiji Furuya, a Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker and chair of the council, announced the news at a meeting held in the Diet on Thursday. He emphasized the council's crucial role in fostering relationships with countries and regions sharing common values.
During their visit to Taiwan, the council members, including Furuya, will also meet with Han Kuo-yu, president of the Legislative Yuan, and other prominent figures. This further demonstrates the commitment to expanding dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.
In a video message delivered at the meeting, President-elect Lai expressed the shared destiny of life and death between Taiwan and Japan. He emphasized his desire to strengthen exchanges and collaboration with Japan, further solidifying the bond between the two nations.
