Over a century since its inception in 1918, Waseda University's renowned rugby club has made a historic addition by forming its inaugural women's team. The introduction of the women's team, comprising 11 members and support staff, aligns with the university's effort to boost female participation in sports clubs, aiming to balance the gender ratio among its 2,527 members from the previous academic year, where women accounted for about 35% of the total. During a press conference in Tokyo, team captain Kae Chigita articulated her aspirations to elevate the standing of women's rugby while honoring the legacy of the esteemed Waseda rugby club.
