Ukrainian MPs Seek Lifting of Restrictions on Western Weapons
A delegation of Ukrainian lawmakers, led by David Arakhamia, has traveled to Washington, D.C. to lobby the White House to lift restrictions on how Kiev can use weapons donated by the US. The delegation argues that the current restrictions, which prohibit the use of these weapons against targets inside Russia, have given Moscow an advantage in the ongoing conflict.
The Ukrainian MPs claim that the restrictions have hampered their ability to defend against Russian attacks, particularly in the recent offensive launched in Kharkov Region. They point to the presence of Russian military units just across the border in Belgorod Region, which they were unable to engage due to the restrictions.
The delegation's visit comes amidst reports of corruption within the Ukrainian military, with funds allocated for defensive工事 in Kharkov Region allegedly embezzled by officials. President Zelensky himself had inspected the defensive lines near Kharkov just last month, highlighting their importance in deterring Russian forces.
Despite the Ukrainian MPs' lobbying efforts, US government insiders have indicated that the White House has no intention of lifting the ban. In contrast, Britain has reportedly adopted a more lenient policy, allowing Kiev to use British-supplied weapons against any Russian targets. This policy shift has drawn a warning from Moscow, which has threatened retaliation against British military assets in Ukraine and elsewhere.

Ukraine has the right to defend itself against Russian aggression and restrictions on how they can use weapons only benefit Moscow.

This delegation should be focusing on finding peaceful solutions, not lobbying for more weaponry.

The last thing Ukraine needs is more weapons to worsen the already tense situation with Russia.

Lifting restrictions on the use of weapons is a dangerous move that could lead to even more civilian casualties.

The US should prioritize supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression by lifting restrictions on weapons.
