Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) chairman Kaesang Pangarep has been guiding supporters on marking their ballots and endorsing specific presidential candidate pairs during campaign events. President Jokowi remarked that PSI's political campaigns are internal matters and suggested directing inquiries about the party's political strategies to Kaesang. Kaesang recently mentioned at a party event that his father, Jokowi, would assist in campaigning for PSI members running in local and regional elections scheduled for November, especially in regions where the party previously had a solid showing.

The PSI, established in 2014, has emphasized championing youth, minority rights, and pluralism, evolving into a supporter of "Jokowism" in recent years. Kaesang, a businessman turned politician, assumed the role of PSI chairman shortly after joining the party, seen as an alternative political avenue for Jokowi post his split with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). Despite receiving 2.8 percent of the popular vote in the legislative race, falling short of the threshold for seats in the House of Representatives, the PSI now focuses on the upcoming regional elections, contemplating nominating Kaesang for the Jakarta gubernatorial race.

The upcoming regional elections are anticipated to be highly competitive, with numerous candidates vying for various positions. To participate in a regional race, a candidate requires backing from a party or coalition holding over 25 percent of seats in the Regional Legislative Council. The PSI, having secured 7.68 percent of the vote in the February legislative election, surpassed established parties like the Democratic Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN), reflecting its growing influence in Indonesian politics.
