President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka made a public appearance at the General Elections Commission (KPU) headquarters in Jakarta on April 24, 2024. The occasion marked the official announcement of their victory in the presidential election.
Gibran, the eldest son of outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, stated that Prabowo would have full authority in selecting candidates for ministerial positions in the upcoming administration. "There will be a lot of professionals," Gibran told reporters. "But please wait because any decision regarding cabinet ministers will be in the hands of Pak Prabowo as the president-elect."
President-elect Prabowo is currently engaged in negotiations with major political parties in his coalition to determine the allocation of cabinet positions. He has also been in close communication with President Jokowi, who has privately requested that some ministers from the current administration be retained in their positions.
Prabowo is considering adding new portfolios to accommodate demands from political party leaders who are eager to secure more cabinet seats. However, President Jokowi has denied any involvement in the vetting process for potential cabinet members. "If you want to ask about the cabinet, please ask the president-elect," Jokowi stated.
