President-Elect Prabowo Subianto Plans for a Large Cabinet Ahead of Inauguration
President-elect Prabowo Subianto and his vice president-elect, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, have expressed their intention to create a large coalition government in Indonesia following their victory in the presidential election. As discussions with political parties in the coalition are ongoing, there is a focus on adding new portfolios to the cabinet to satisfy the demands of various party leaders.
Amidst speculation that a larger cabinet may be a strategic move to appease political allies, it has been emphasized that the authority to shape the cabinet lies with Prabowo. Habiburokhman, a spokesperson, clarified that the decision on the cabinet's size and composition ultimately rests with Prabowo, who aims to establish a stable government to tackle the country's significant challenges. Prabowo's coalition includes parties like Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, and the Democratic Party, with additional support from NasDem and PKB.
Vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka has suggested that professionals will play a significant role in the incoming administration's cabinet. He indicated that Prabowo will have the sole discretion to select individuals for ministerial positions, highlighting the emphasis on expertise and competency in forming the government's leadership. As Indonesia prepares for Prabowo's inauguration on Oct. 20, discussions with coalition partners continue to determine the allocation of cabinet positions and the overall direction of the new administration.
