Nilson Granados-Trejo, a 25-year-old man with no fixed address, was arrested on Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 2-year-old boy in Langley Park, Maryland. Granados-Trejo was one of five people arrested in the case.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Granados-Trejo had been released from Montgomery County custody twice last year despite requests from federal immigration officials to hold him for deportation proceedings.
The shooting occurred outside an apartment complex in Langley Park. The 2-year-old victim, Jeremy Poou-Caceres, was caught in the crossfire and killed. Jeremy's 17-year-old mother was also injured in the shooting.
Granados-Trejo has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related counts. The other four suspects have also been charged with various crimes related to the shooting.
