More than 150 German men recently congregated inside a beer tent to participate in a finger wrestling competition, a sport commonly referred to as "Fingerhakeln." This traditional Bavarian and Austrian activity has a long history, with roots that can be traced back to the 14th century. The tournament took place in Bernbeuren over the weekend, where competitors faced each other across a table and engaged in the intense finger-pulling match.
During the competition, each participant sits down and hooks one of their fingers, typically the middle digit, through opposite sides of a leather loop that's set up on the table. Once their fingers are securely in place, the contenders exert as much strength as they can muster to pull against each other. The objective of the game is to demonstrate finger strength and endurance, with the ultimate goal being to overpower the opponent by pulling their finger across the table. Not only does this physical challenge test the competitors' finger strength, but it also requires a great deal of determination and resilience to endure the intense tugging throughout the match.
