A 20-centimeter-long snake caused a stir on the JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo on Sunday afternoon, disrupting the transportation of about 2,700 passengers.
The drama began around 5 p.m. when a passenger alerted station personnel at Shibuya Station about a "snake-like creature" in car 8 of an 11-car train. Staff immediately took action, evacuating passengers from car 8 and searching the carriage at Komagome Station. Despite their efforts, the snake remained elusive.
The train resumed operations after a 15-minute delay, with passengers instructed to avoid car 8. However, the journey was far from over. Upon reaching Osaki Station, everyone disembarked, and the train was taken to a maintenance center in Shinagawa Ward for a thorough inspection.
Finally, around 7 p.m., an employee at the center spotted the snake under a seat. The serpent, identified as a young Japanese rat snake, was safely captured and reported to the police.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, the snake's unexpected appearance caused a significant disruption to the transportation network, highlighting the unpredictable nature of urban life.
