China's Ministry of National Defense has called out the Philippines for their recent activities near Ren'ai Reef in the South China Sea. The Ministry's spokesperson, Senior Colonel Wu Qian, criticized the Philippines for intruding into Chinese waters with ships to resupply a military vessel grounded on the reef back in 1999.
According to the Ministry, the China Coast Guard lawfully dealt with the Philippine vessels, preventing any encroachment on Chinese territory. They stated that the Philippines deliberately breached agreements by attempting to transport supplies and construction materials to the grounded vessel on Ren'ai Reef, disrupting peace and stability in the region. China's response was described as standard, reasonable, lawful, and professional in handling the provocative actions from the Philippines.
China's Coast Guard spokesperson, Gan Yu, emphasized the importance of respecting China's territorial sovereignty in the South China Sea. Yu highlighted that China will not tolerate any violations and will take resolute measures to defend its territorial integrity and maritime rights and interests. The Chinese authorities warned the Philippines to refrain from escalating tensions and cease all provocative acts, indicating a willingness to engage in dialogue for dispute resolution but also asserting their determination to defend their sovereignty.
