China has strongly condemned military collaboration between Taiwan and the United States, emphasizing the one-China principle as the cornerstone of Sino-American relations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed China's opposition to Taiwan's "navy chief" Tang Hua's upcoming visit to the U.S.
Lin urged the U.S. to recognize the sensitivity of the Taiwan issue and to cease all official exchanges and military ties with the island. He stressed the importance of adhering to the one-China principle and the stipulations outlined in the three China-U.S. joint communiques.
According to Reuters, Tang's visit includes attending a military ceremony in Hawaii and the Sea-Air-Space conference near Washington. Talks are also being held to arrange a meeting with Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the U.S. chief of naval operations.
Taiwan and the Pentagon have declined to comment on the visit. However, since Tsai Ing-wen became Taiwan's leader in 2016, military cooperation between the island and the U.S. has increased.
