On Sunday morning, severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall battered Nanchang, Jiangxi province, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals and injuries to over ten others. The storm brought strong winds, thunderstorms, and torrential rain, causing widespread damage.
Videos shared by residents on social media captured the aftermath of the storm, showing shattered windows and scattered glass. Local authorities confirmed that three people had fallen to their deaths in a residential area during the extreme weather. The cause of these fatalities is still under investigation.
The disaster reduction office issued a warning to residents, predicting another severe weather event from Monday to Saturday. They urged people to monitor weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
The heavy rainfall and strong winds uprooted trees and damaged buildings, with air conditioning units falling from structures. The most severely affected areas were residential areas near Xiang Lake and neighborhoods in Nanchang county.
Meanwhile, the China Meteorological Administration forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall for much of the country during the upcoming Tomb Sweeping Day holiday. Overcast skies and rainy weather are expected in several provinces, including Guizhou, Hubei, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shanghai.
Hydrologists have warned that this year's flood season, which began on Monday, will be characterized by both droughts and floods due to the impact of extreme weather. The seven major rivers in China are expected to experience varying levels of flooding, while other regions may face intermittent droughts.
