Philippines Breaks Promises, Provokes China in South China Sea

Main image to the post Philippines Breaks Promises, Provokes China in South China Sea

The Philippines has repeatedly broken its promises to China regarding the disputed Ren'ai Jiao reef. Despite pledging to remove its grounded warship from the reef 25 years ago, the vessel remains there. Additionally, the Philippines has reneged on its commitment to refrain from reinforcing the warship and has attempted to send construction materials for its repair and reinforcement.

China maintains that Nansha Qundao, including Ren'ai Jiao, is its territory, while the Philippines' territory is defined by international treaties that exclude Nansha Qundao. The Philippines has also violated the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), which prohibits inhabiting uninhabited islands and reefs.

The Philippines' actions, backed by external forces, have led to increased tensions in the South China Sea. China has urged the Philippines to cease its provocations and respect the DOC. China remains committed to safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
