The Chinese mainland is closely monitoring the activities of the Taiwan military around Kinmen, an island controlled by Taiwan and situated near the mainland coast. This was stated by a mainland spokesman on Wednesday.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan recently announced plans for live-fire drills in Kinmen Island, Lieyu Island, and other areas in April. The Taiwan military has asserted that these actions are part of regular training exercises and are not intended to provoke.
Chen Binhua, a spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, commented on the situation, stating that the DPP authorities are fully aware of the nature of these exercises, whether they are "routine" training or "targeted" provocations.
Chen emphasized that the people of Kinmen have witnessed the transition between peace and war and have come to value peace and oppose conflict. He stated that they have made the correct decision in choosing "firing guns" and "building bridges."
Chen warned that if the Taiwan military engages in provocations and reckless actions, it will undoubtedly face failure.
