A joint international crackdown by Chinese and Myanmar police has resulted in the capture of 807 individuals suspected of cross-border telecom fraud. Of these suspects, 352 are Chinese nationals who have been handed over to Chinese authorities for further investigation. The remaining suspects will be handled by Myanmar authorities.
This crackdown marks the first time that police from both countries have collaborated on law enforcement in the Muse area of northern Myanmar. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security has hailed the operation as a significant achievement in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations. It also underscores their shared commitment to combating cross-border telecom fraud.
Since the beginning of 2022, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security has intensified international cooperation with Myanmar law enforcement agencies to address the severe problem of telecom fraud targeting China from northern Myanmar. This collaboration has led to a series of joint operations, resulting in the transfer of approximately 48,000 Chinese fraud suspects to China. These efforts have significantly reduced the incidence of telecom fraud.
