In a recent operation, Chinese and Myanmar police successfully captured a total of 807 suspects involved in cross-border telecom scams, showcasing the deepened cooperation between the two countries in combating this type of crime. The Ministry of Public Security in China revealed details of the operation, emphasizing the significance of this joint effort in law enforcement cooperation between China and Myanmar. The operation, based on information provided by Chinese authorities, led Myanmar police to the Muse area, a critical border gateway, where they dismantled hideouts and apprehended the suspects.

Among the arrested individuals were 352 Chinese nationals, including 21 alleged ringleaders, who were transferred to Chinese police for further investigation. Additionally, a significant amount of equipment used in the scams, such as computers and mobile phones, was seized during the operation. This collaboration between Chinese and Myanmar police in the Muse area marked the first instance of such joint efforts in that particular region, highlighting the commitment to tackling telecom fraud across borders. Since the beginning of the previous year, the Ministry of Public Security in China has been actively enhancing cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Myanmar to address the challenges posed by telecom fraud originating from northern Myanmar.

The ministry reported that approximately 48,000 Chinese suspects have been handed over to Chinese authorities for further legal proceedings, indicating progress in combating cross-border telecom scams. Recognizing telecom fraud as a global issue for law enforcement, the ministry emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing this challenge and pledged to sustain efforts in collaboration with relevant countries and regions. With a focus on eradicating scam operations and apprehending suspects, the Chinese authorities are committed to curbing the rise of cross-border fraud and ensuring the safety of people's lives and property. Additionally, the ministry urged individuals engaged in telecom fraud overseas to cease their illegal activities and return to China for lenient treatment by turning themselves in.
