The Peking University table tennis team recently visited the United States to participate in the USATT Table Tennis Open Championships and an event commemorating ping-pong diplomacy. The team engaged with American friends involved in the historic event, as well as students and locals.
Similarly, a table tennis delegation from the University of Virginia visited China and participated in the China-U.S. Youth Ping-Pong Exchange at Tsinghua University. These mutual visits have strengthened the bond between China and the U.S. that began with ping-pong diplomacy and have fostered new opportunities for people-to-people exchanges.
The foundation of the China-U.S. relationship lies in its people, and its future depends on the youth. Subnational exchanges play a vital role in fostering understanding and cooperation. Fifty-three years ago, young table tennis players from both countries paved the way for the normalization of China-U.S. relations, demonstrating the power of sports to bridge divides.
China is committed to working with the U.S. to promote people-to-people exchanges, carry forward the spirit of ping-pong diplomacy, and build a stronger friendship between the two nations.
