The Ministry of National Defense reiterated its stance on peaceful reunification with Taiwan, highlighting the core principles of "peaceful reunification and 'one country, two systems'" as the foundation for resolving the Taiwan issue. Senior Colonel Wu Qian, the ministry's spokesperson, addressed concerns raised by recent interpretations regarding Taiwan's status and China's approach towards this matter. Despite the omission of the term "peaceful reunification" in a recent Government Work Report, Wu clarified that this change in wording does not signify a reduction in China's efforts towards Taiwan but rather reaffirms their sincerity in pursuing reunification.

Wu expressed China's unwavering determination to prevent Taiwan from being separated from the mainland, emphasizing the significance of the 1992 Consensus as a cornerstone for peace and stability in the region. He underscored that achieving complete reunification is not only the correct path but also aligns with global trends and enjoys widespread international support. In addition, Wu highlighted the pivotal role of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in safeguarding national interests and combating any attempts at "Taiwan independence," emphasizing the PLA's commitment to reunification and its readiness to defend national sovereignty.

Concluding his remarks, Wu issued a stern warning that the PLA will intensify military training and enhance combat preparedness to uphold national sovereignty and territorial integrity with unwavering determination and robust capabilities. This statement reinforces China's resolve to prevent any challenges to its territorial integrity and signals the PLA's unwavering commitment to safeguarding national interests in the face of external threats.
