The Chinese mainland is actively monitoring the movements of the Taiwan military around Kinmen Island, which is under Taiwan's administration and located in close proximity to the mainland coast. This surveillance comes in response to the recent announcement by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities about conducting live-fire drills on Kinmen Island and Lieyu Island in April. The Taiwan military has clarified that these drills are routine training exercises and not directed towards any specific targets.

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, pointed out that regardless of whether the training exercises are classified as routine or targeted provocations, the DPP authorities are well aware of the implications. He highlighted the historical context of Kinmen Island, where the local population has firsthand experience of transitions between peace and war, leading them to value peace and reject conflict. By emphasizing the choices made by the people of Kinmen to prioritize peace by "firing guns" for military practices and "building bridges" for reconciliation, the message conveyed is one of peaceful intentions. Despite the commitment to peace, a warning was issued to the Taiwan military, cautioning against reckless actions and assurances that any provocations would ultimately end in failure.
