An Lingfei, a senior doctor from the Inner Mongolia medical team, has successfully set up the China-Rwanda Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Diagnosis and Treatment Center in Kigali's Masaka District Hospital, where he has been providing TCM treatments since December. The center now sees an average of more than 30 patients daily, predominantly dealing with conditions like lower back pain, degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee and ankle joints, as well as other chronic musculoskeletal diseases prevalent in Rwanda.
One of the reasons for the high demand at the TCM center is the unique geographical conditions of Rwanda, known as the land of a thousand hills. The locals navigate the challenging mountain roads year-round, leading to increased joint and muscle stress, which TCM treatments have proven effective in addressing. An Lingfei mentioned that TCM has demonstrated significant advantages in treating these prevalent diseases, with positive results reported by patients. The center offers various TCM therapies such as acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, physical therapy, and massage, providing the local population with an opportunity to experience and benefit from Eastern medicine practices.
