China has made significant strides in establishing eco-industrial parks, which have contributed substantially to the country's industrial growth. These parks are designed to minimize pollution and promote sustainable practices.
As of 2022, China had established 73 eco-industrial parks, accounting for 7.6% of the nation's total industrial added value. Notably, these parks have a significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional industrial areas.
For instance, the sulfur dioxide emissions from eco-industrial parks in 2022 constituted only 0.9% of the total industrial sector emissions. Moreover, the intensity of major pollutant emissions in these parks is 81% lower than the national average.
Additionally, eco-industrial parks prioritize the efficient utilization of solid waste, achieving a multipurpose utilization rate of 90.8%, surpassing the average level in industrial parks nationwide.
The development of eco-industrial parks in China has been guided by regulations issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. These regulations aim to promote the integration of technology, economics, and management practices to optimize resource and energy utilization within production processes.
