Community Coordinator Leads Recovery Efforts After Earthquake
Mitsunobu Inoike, a coordinator with the municipal government, has taken the initiative to keep the splintered community of Kanakura together after a devastating earthquake displaced most of its residents. Inoike has organized daily gatherings at a local community center, where residents can connect, share updates, and support each other.
Inoike's efforts extend beyond the daily gatherings. He has arranged transportation for residents to access essential services such as hot meals and medical care. He has also submitted a request to the Wajima mayor to build temporary housing within the district to prevent further population outflow.
Despite the challenges, Inoike remains committed to preserving the community's history and ensuring its future. He believes that the beautiful terraced rice paddies, a testament to the hard work of past generations, must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
According to an Asahi Shimbun survey, many earthquake victims in Ishikawa Prefecture face similar challenges. Housing, infrastructure development, and economic concerns are among the most pressing issues. Depopulation and stagnation of the local economy are also major concerns for local reconstruction.
