During the subfreezing Chiefs-Dolphins playoff game in January, fans endured extreme cold that resulted in severe frostbite injuries. A Missouri hospital reported treating numerous individuals affected by the frigid conditions, including some who had attended the NFL playoff game on January 13th.

Research Medical Center performed amputations on 12 patients, primarily involving fingers and toes. Hospital officials anticipated the need for additional surgeries as the injuries continued to evolve. The hospital declined to specify how many patients were from the playoff game.

The game was played in frigid temperatures of -4 degrees Fahrenheit, with windchill dropping the temperature to -27 degrees Fahrenheit. It was the coldest game ever played at Arrowhead Stadium and the fourth coldest in NFL history. The extreme conditions significantly impacted ticket prices, with prices ranging from $42 to $989, much lower than playoff games in warmer climates that weekend, which had tickets exceeding $2,700.
